Categories: Global Health | Tourism | Tragedy | Travel Immediate changes occurred within the first few months of the pandemic to many, such as the international travel industry, shopping and consumerism industry, and events industry. Covid-19 changed the way everyone lives and interacts with the world around them. As we begin to slowly progress with vaccines and mandates, we can see that there are a number of changes that are here to stay, even after this is resolved. Some of these new changes are positive for businesses and people, which may have us asking, why weren't we doing this all along? We saw rapid decline within the international tourism industry just from 2019 to 2020 with a $500 billion decline in travel spending. The ways we shop were changed immediately with the temporary shut down of in person stores and malls, fitting rooms closing, and the bankruptcy of favorite stores such as J.C. Penney, Lord & Taylor, and Pier 1. Customers then had to resort to online shopping and delivery services to get the products they wanted to continue to consume. Conferences, trade shows, conventions, concerts and festivals saw an immediate change as they shut down due to their populated nature. High profile events changed toward more virtual experiences, further challenging the coordinators to create the same emotions in a very different environment.
